Choose for yourself

It's a good day in a writer's life when they create something that they believe will be relevant, lasting, and powerful.

Now, I know this isn't the Declaration of Independence or anything, but I don't mind saying I'm pretty proud of myself.

Pick.im: Choose for yourself.

If you're a freelancer, it means "do it!" be self-employed, choose a lifestyle that is more personal, exciting, rewarding and risky.

If you're a client, it means that we have the freelancers, you can come and find what you need here.

I think it works.

On poultry

What's good for the client is good for the freelancer.

This is true, and a really good way of thinking about the business model of Pick.

But we could look at it the other way, too:  What's good for the freelancer is also good for the client.

Which is more important to our growth as a service?

I think that's the interesting challenge we face: Who came first, the freelancer or the client?

Real, meaningful, and attainable

Working on site content and some other relevant writing projects
tonight, and I had a realization that I think is really awesome.

The mission of Pick.im is already established--it is real, meaningful
and attainable.

The business plan is still in the works--it, too, is real, meaningful
and attainable.

Around here, it's the mission statement that justifies the business
plan, not the other way around.

Yay.

Live Demo

This weekend Scott Andreas whipped up a prototype of pick.

I wasn't prepared for it to come together so fast, just blown away.  Exciting to see something you have been thinking about for months coded up and working wonderfully.

Screenshots of the first internal launch.

Just Right

Sometimes, the right person with the right idea shows up at the right time.

Now, I get to argue about feature development and marketing copy with
Andrew, which is really quite a privilege.

So happy to be here.

Watch this space for lists of future features and my adventures with
writing specs using cucumber.
